Leiden gay life

If you're lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and want to sample gay life in Leiden, you're welome at Bar-dancing De Kroon and gay bar De Roze Beurs. And if you're not adverse to travelling, you'll find that Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague can all easily be reached. Hourly night trains will even take you back home every day of the week.

Bar-dancing De Kroon

Bar-dancing De KroonThe main gay venue in Leiden is Bar-dancing De Kroon, which is associated with COC Leiden. It's located at Langegracht 65, and open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The most well-known activity is the Saturday night disco. It starts at 23 hours, and starts being crowded after midnight. Before that, the upstairs bar is open for drinks from 22 hours onwards. On Saturday nights, there is a small entrance fee: € 3. Members and volunteers of COC Leiden pay the reduced fee of € 1.

On Fridays the upstairs bar is open for drinks (22 - 2 hrs), a small bite and a chat in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. Sundays are for special activities: the women's party Sunday Times (every last Sunday of the month, 16-21 hours), the 50+ Café (every second Sunday of the month, 16-19 hours), and Jong & Out (every first Sunday 13-17 hours) for the youth between 12 and 19.

Every first Thursday of the month, our bar offers a meeting place for Hiv-positive people and their friends (19 -23 hrs).

Gay bar De Roze Beurs

De Roze BeursLeiden has one gay bar: De Roze Beurs. It is located at Oude Singel 128, literally around the corner from Bar-dancing De Kroon, open every day except Tuesdays. Your hosts are Michiel and Detlev. English spoken.

  • Summer opening hours: daily (except Tue) from 15 hours
  • Winter opening hours: daily (except Tue) from 19 hours, 16 hours on Sundays

The hour of the last calls at the bar varies from day to day. Due to local regulations, doors close at 1 o'clock (Sun-Wed) or 2 o'clock (Thu-Sat). Make sure you're in before that time!
